The face and name of Mila

Ok this is a quickie, just to tell the story and show her off.
The name. Its been asked by many, and we have waited to tell the story of where her name came from. As most of you know I was very close to my paternal grandmother. Before she passed away, Marcus also became very close to her. Frankly, if you knew her, you were likely to adore her. Her name was Irma Lee Milam before she was married. She took the nickname Peggy when she was in highschool because she and several friends hated their names.

Well, we kind of hate them too. But we wanted to honor her still. So we decided early on that if we had a boy his name would be Milam. Long I as is pronounced in her maiden name. When we found out it was a girl we were in a bit of a pickle. After deliberating for a while we decided to cut the m on the end and shorten the I to call her Mila. And we loved it immediately!! I hope that my grandmother knows what an honor it was to have her in my life. And what an honor it is to name our daughter after her.

Now for some pictures!!!

You can see how puffy I still am... sigh

Neat name story. Similarly, I'm not crazy about my grandfather's first and middle names (Hugh Barton) but I think his last name (Duncan) would make a nice boy's name.

-Mary (previously Neidert)

The word "precious" comes to mind, but that might be because I was watching The Lord of the Rings last night. She's absolutely adorable. I love the name origin, too. Very sweet.

Hahaha... when we were carrying her out of the hospital I did a Gollum impression. Good times.

Thanks for the story. It's always nice to hear the name's origin. She is way too pretty! I have to say, in the last photo, she looks a little jaundicy.?? Could just be the lighting too, but both my babes had jaundice, (Liam's was really bad, he looked like a carrot, more orange than yellow.) Totally normal, so don't worry if she is, just get her billy rubin level counted and then go from there. Most babes clear up on there own and others need a billy light. I so do not mean to be one of those who tell you what you need to do and just how to do it... so please forgive me if I sound nosy or pushy. I hope your lovin' mother and fatherhood!!

All our love! The Shields

Yeah she is slightly yellow, but the doctor says its normal since my milk isnt coming in that well yet. That picture also makes her look very yellow, so its not as bad as that. I dont mind when people give me suggestions or voice concerns. I actually appreciate it. Im so new at it all!!
Hopefully she gets less jaundicey soon. We are trying our best!

Grandma is smiling right now down on her beautiful great granddaughter! I love her name and I am sure she will be honored to have it when she understands where it came from.
